Mar. 31, 1892 - At about 9:30 p.m. on this date, a tornado destroyed or severely damaged nearly all of the structures in Towanda, Kansas. Eight of the 300 people living there were killed and many were injured.

Feb. 23, 1892 - Vance Randolph, who would become a famed folklorist, was born in Pittsburg, Kansas.
