Jan. 3, 1883 - A large fire struck Columbus, in which ten frame buildings on the south side of the public square were consumed. The total loss was $19,950, upon which there was an insurance of $5,825.

Jan. 11, 1883 - A large fire occurred in the downtown are of Humboldt, resulting the the destruction or damage of several buildings.
